48 young people in remission from cancer to sail Lake Geneva this summer
After two poignant editions, the Léman hope project is spreading to German-speaking Switzerland. The aim is to welcome 48 young people from German and French-speaking Switzerland on a cruise on Lake Geneva, offering them a new route to confidence!
The Léman hope family continues to grow, and this summer will be able to welcome twice as many participants as last year. This is great news for young people in remission from cancer, who can look to the future with optimism by taking part in a unique 4-day, 4-night cruise aboard sailing boats on Lake Geneva. This fun and enriching adventure gives them the opportunity to assert themselves outside the family environment by learning about sailing.
Léman hope crosses the Sarine and is now also aimed at young people in German-speaking Switzerland. The long-term aim of the Léman hope Foundation is to welcome as many young people as possible throughout Switzerland. Jochen Rössler, Head of the Department of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology at Berne University Hospital, welcomes this new initiative: "We are delighted to see the Léman hope project expanding into German-speaking Switzerland. I'm sure our young survivors will benefit from this adventure". The skippers and support staff will all speak the same language: that of sharing and a taste for adventure. The vocation of Léman hope is to create an environment conducive to the rediscovery of proven confidence by transmitting to young people a love of sailing, while allowing them to have fun and enjoy the experience in complete safety!
Cancer is not only a painful ordeal for the body, it's also a psychological challenge that can last for months or even years. On this International Pediatric Cancer Day, we want to highlight the mental battle that many young people in remission wage day after day!" "Cured does not mean finished, which is why Léman hope proposes to tackle the aftermath by helping young people in remission from cancer to look to their future with optimism," reminds Esteban Garcia, founder of the Léman hope Foundation. We need your help, your donations and your support to make this fight a reality.
Registration to take part in the adventure is now officially open! The Segeltörns take place from July 9 to 13 and July 16 to 20, 2022. To register your child or teenager, go to registration or visit our website www.lemanhope.ch.
Here's what they had to say
"On the boat, we're all the same and we know what it's like to be sick."
Aurélien, survivor
"My best moment was when we heeled over. I loved the feeling of flying over the water. I felt free! I tried new things that I didn't think I knew how to do, and it helped me feel more confident, like when I was steering or helping out during maneuvers."
Isabelle, survivor
"We noticed a change in Léona in the days after the cruise. She was different, more open."
Léona's mother
"As an instructor and survivor, I was able to watch these young people regain their innocence and childlike gaiety in just a few days."
Camille, instructor
"It's an amazing feeling to be able to give back strength, joy, energy, self-confidence and a taste for adventure to children who have already been through so much, with just a little volunteer help."
Cara, volunteer
